Gerri’s Story
I have devoted my career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to helping individuals of all ages overcome a variety of issues. As my career has evolved, I have also found a passion for mentoring and training entry level clinicians. I am fortunate to be able to combine my areas of expertise as Modern Psychiatry’s Clinical Director, Lead Therapist and Clinical Supervisor.
From anxious or defiant children, angry or depressed teens, over achieving or lost college students, adults struggling to create a healthy home-work life balance, overwhelmed parents, those finding it difficult to adjust to life changes or transitions, couples dissatisfied with their relationships to individuals grieving a loss, I have found much success in helping individuals get to the root of their issues and develop more peaceful and satisfying lives.
“Being a part of an individual's growth, whether it be a client or new therapist, is something I find quite rewarding.”
As a compassionate, empathetic listener, I strive to create an environment in which my clients feel safe and empowered to learn about themselves, grow, and make positive life changes. “When a client feels listened to, understood, and validated, they find it easy to open up”.
I use motivational interviewing, positive psychology, emotion focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to help my clients gain insight, identify and replace negative thought patterns and behaviors, improve self-esteem, learn coping skills to deal with a variety of life stressors, identify and communicate needs, establish boundaries, and develop meaningful, happy and fulfilling lives.
My tenure working with both children and adults in various settings throughout the years along with my passion for helping and mentoring others have led me to take on a lead role at Modern Psychiatry. “I am grateful for my experiences, both personal and professional, as they have helped shape me to be the clinician and supervisor I am today. I look forward to continuing doing what I love, first and foremost being a therapist, while guiding my fellow clinicians and shaping next generation therapists.”
