Laura's Story
My approach to mental health care is grounded in the belief that patients deserve to feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their treatment. I strive to create an environment where patients feel comfortable speaking openly about what they are experiencing, while providing honest, thoughtful guidance and evidence-based care.
My background in family medicine, neurology, and psychiatry has strongly shaped the way I practice. Before specializing in psychiatric care, I practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner with a neurology group, an experience that gave me a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between neurological, physical, and mental health.
I believe effective psychiatric treatment requires understanding the whole person, not simply treating a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. I take the time to consider each patient’s medical history, lifestyle, relationships, environment, and individual goals when developing a treatment plan. I believe the best care is collaborative. I want my patients to understand their diagnosis, their treatment options, and the reasoning behind my recommendations. Whether we are discussing medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, or a combination of approaches, my goal is for patients to feel informed and empowered in decisions about their care. I value open communication and believe that trust, honesty, and a strong therapeutic relationship are essential to meaningful progress.
What I find most rewarding about psychiatry is seeing patients begin to feel like themselves again and regain parts of their lives that mental health challenges may have disrupted. Treatment is highly individual, and I believe progress looks different for every person. My role is to meet patients where they are and work alongside them to help them get to where they want to be.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my two daughters, traveling, being near the water, and discovering new places and experiences.
